Free: The Sacred Science film + interviews are free for a limited time

This was supposed to end October 31 but the goodness of the people behind The Sacred Science prompted them to extend The Sacred Science film, plus other video interviews, to Friday, November 4, 2016.

Sacred Science-Film screening

The Sacred Science is a site devoted to holistic and alternative modalities. There are online courses as well as articles that cover amazing healing plants (largely found in the Amazon rainforest), and even a cookbook. The site is a treasure trove for those who, like me, realize that at least 25% of the ingredients found nowadays in pharmaceutical drugs, actually come from these plants.

Integrative Approach to Women’s Wellbeing: A day with Dr. Patty Petralba, M.D.

Women thrive among women friends. It is how we are wired. When we have concerns and problems, it helps to pour out our emotions and issues to “sisters” who can listen and empathize. Many times, just being able to talk is enough to bring down our stress levels several notches. This is something quite alien to the male species who tend to approach their issues by retreating into their caves so they can mull over a possible solution. They will communicate less in order to find an efficient solution to a problem; women become more social — talking a problem through with trusted women, working out finer details, and seeking support.

My yin yoga teacher, Dona, recognizing the importance of women supporting women in all stages of our lives, created a Facebook group called Embodying a Feminine Approach to Wellbeing. This is our “space to share our insights, experiences, resources and practical women’s wisdom that allow us to embody a feminine approach to wellbeing”. Such gatherings are symbolized by circles — wider and wider circles — of women of all ages and life stages. Here we learn how to live according to our natural women’s cycles.

Shangri-la Plaza presents “A Heart for Health Beauty and Wellness” Fair (Aug. 18-21, 2016)

Wellness was hardly a focus of brands and blogs 10 years ago. It was difficult to find anything organic in malls and restaurants. Today, restaurants offering healthier options, vegetarian menus, halal dishes, and organically-sourced raw ingredients abound. In malls, many brick-and-mortar, as well as standalone, outlets now feature personal care and home products that are organic and natural.

In celebration of its 25th year as a lifestyle destination in the metro, Shangri-la Plaza showcases the best of its beauty and wellness brands in the mall at the East Atrium with “A Heart for Health Beauty and Wellness Fair”, from Aug. 18-21, 2016.

Book: You Are Beautiful, Darling!: A First-Aid Kit for Stressed-Out Women by Neli P. Georgieva

(Disclosure: This post is not a review as I still have to read the book. This post is solely for your information.)

This landed in my inbox a week ago — a manuscript sent by the author, Neli P. Georgieva, of her latest 80-page book, published by Balboa Press — You are Beautiful, Darling!: A First-Aid Kit for Stressed-Out Women.

You are Beautiful book to help stressed women

You are Beautiful book to help stressed women

While the author’s background is in business (a freelancer, GMAT instructor and business coach), I understood what compelled her to write this book. She wrote in the preface of her book, “My motivation for writing is very simple: I have seen too many people encounter burnout. The worst part is, it has become accepted as the norm.” I understand burnout. I lived through it.

Here’s the Table of Contents to give you an idea of what’s inside the book. Author Georgieva continues on in the preface, “Since this book is dedicated to us, WOMEN, we will also look into how stress and burnout affect your femininity and self-confidence, and what you can do to get these back.” I flipped through the manuscript pages and noted that Georgieva also included illustrations of some exercises she recommends to help women destress.

Oil Pulling: A holistic way of pulling toxins from the mouth to stay healthy

When I wake up in the morning, I head for the bathroom, empty my bladder, then pick up this bottle of oil and spray  it 5 times into my mouth.

My oil pulling tonic from Indigobaby

My oil pulling tonic from Indigobaby

I swish the oil (which mixes slowly with saliva) around my mouth for about 15 minutes as it continues to gain volume from saliva production — working it through my teeth, around the gums, on the sides. While oil pulling, I do other things like readying the clothes to wear, fixing my bed, and even taking a morning shower. After 15 minutes, I spit it out into a bin (not into the sink because it could eventually clog my pipes), rinse my mouth with water, then drink a full glass of water to hydrate my organs. All these before I take breakfast.

Book Review: Szen Zone by Gary Szenderski

An ebook sent to me recently had a very intriguing title – Szen Zone: Reaching a State of Positive Change – a clever spelling variant taken from the name of the author, Gary Szenderski.

The Szen Zone MECH.indd

Szen Zone is filled with short, inspirational and heartwarming stories that celebrate our inner power to achieve a state of positive change. Books about zen help us “live in the present moment”, especially when difficult moments arise. But the Szen Zone takes it a step further by helping prepare our mindset AHEAD of any challenges happening so that when they do occur, we are better prepared to be in the moment, let go, and make positive changes in our lives by managing our reactions and actions and changing course.

Take 2: A blissfully balanced yogini afternoon at the Fort with our RegettaCanoe shoes

“Love is lovelier the second time around…” and when you get a second chance to try on an ergonomic pair of RegettaCanoe shoes that you already love, you do not say no.

For weeks I had already been wearing a pair of RegettaCanoe shoes that Ansel Sy of the Primer Group had me try. And loved the walking experience!

Read about my first experience with RegettaCanoe HERE.

This time though, I was with a group of lifestyle bloggers, and surprise, surprise….two of my yoga teacher-friends, Monica Eleazar-Manzano and Anna Manalastas! This was going to be a fun, fun, differently yogic afternoon!
