Experiencing myofascial release at Polarity Physiotherapy Center

Providence truly happens at just the right time and the Universe showed me just how much it listens and arranges things.

I had received an email out of the blue from Polarity Physiotherapy Center (I found out later that they had just googled and found my blog!) with an invitation to try one of their therapeutic services – myofascial release. Of course, that term made me sit up. My yin yoga practice works with the fascia, among others.

Review: Walking around the metro in my RegettaCanoe sandals

More than fashion, when I buy footwear nowadays, my foremost priority is foot comfort and support. In my corporate world some decades back, I wore closed, heeled shoes. Fashionable but torture on the feet!!!

Yoga has shown me the importance of freedom and comfort of the feet. In reflexology, massage is concentrated on the soles of the feet. Why? Because all organs can be stimulated and manipulated depending on which pressure points in the soles you depress. Energy channels (meridians) start or end in the toes and run through “highways of energy” all over. But because meridians begin or end in the toes, the feet (often much neglected) actually are very important to our wellness. Our feet need to breathe and our toes must not be constrained by tight-fitting, pointy and very high-heeled shoes that keep our feet for hours in unnatural positions. When the feet are well-supported, it actually contributes to one’s overall well-being. Don’t you automatically feel it all over your body when your feet are painful and tired?

Got this Regetta pair to try out!

The Yogini from Manila is #25 in this list of Top 50 Yoga Blogs

I received another surprise this month. My yoga blog was not only listed as one of the Top 50 Yoga Blogs but it was also included in an infographic! Take a look — I’m #25!

This yoga blog has already gone where I never expected it to go. It began as a simple diary of my own yoga journey. Then I began listing the few yoga studios existing in Metro Manila and eventually, provinces (today, I am happy to see  the number of yoga studios continually rising everywhere!). Now, as I approach my 10th blog anniversary this November 2016, I am starting to refocus my posts on wellness and not just yoga. To make wellness a lifestyle due to greater awareness is challenging, especially in our modern, stress-filled world, but we should keep on trying to bring this message to as many people as possible.

Every list of top blogs will always have some subjectivity in it and the author of the article on rebateszone.com says so (“All lists are subjective in the end; and difference of opinion can occur.“). I am just so happy and humbled to be part of several such top yoga blog lists from different sites. It motivates me to try to do even more.

If you want to discover some new yoga bloggers, this list is a place to start. To read the full article, which includes direct links to all 50 yoga blogs, click HERE.

A potent superfood drink — Organique Acai Premium Blend

Superfood — it’s a term that is not even in the Merriam-Webster dictionary (yes, I checked!!!) but everyone into health uses the term to refer to foods that contain extra large doses of antioxidants (believed to fight free radicals and shield us from cell damage), healthy fats ( thought to prevent heart disease), fiber (great for digestion), or phytochemicals (those plant chemicals that give them a dark color and smell).

The list of real superfoods is debatable and varies from health site to health site. But I do know that dark berries like cherries and blueberries are very rich in antioxidants. One dark berry that is quite potent is the açai (pronounced ah-SIGH-ee) berry, an exotic berry that comes from the açai palm tree and is native to South America.

Ambient Zone 2: Ambient music for yoga and meditation (and I have download codes to give out!)

If you’re looking for yoga or meditation music, try ambient music. It is a genre that is tonal and continuous, usually evoking dreamy and calming emotions. Recognized as a pioneer of ambient music is Brian Eno whose album, Ambient 1: Music for Airports I have among my playlists. He designed the music by looping a short melody and slowing down the tempo. The result was a continuous stream of calming music that fitted perfectly into the airport atmosphere.

I find certain ambient music perfect for meditating or for yoga practice. In fact, I had already been thinking of a short yin yoga playlist for classes. Then, over the Christmas holidays, I received a surprise email. It was from the label manager of a UK-based record label. He made me listen to a new ambient album they had just released recently – the Ambient Zone 2 — and I loved it!

Don’t forget to read all the way down because like me, you can have a chance to download the album – for FREE!

The Yogini from Manila is a nominee/finalist in Bloggys 2015

omgimnominatedA few days ago, I received an unexpected email with the news that my blog, The Yogini from Manila, “has been nominated by several netizens in #bloggys2015, Philippine Blogging Awards” as a nominee/finalist for its Health and Fitness category.

For many years, blogging awards recognized bloggers in various fields (entertainment, travel, multimedia, lifestyle and even advocacy). Health and wellness was never included as a category. I guess awareness of health and wellness was not as high in consciousness then as it is now. In fact, when I started my yoga blog in 2006, yoga was not yet as widespread as it is now.

I am thankful to Bloggys 2015 for initiating the category on Health and Fitness. It is high time we give wellness the same, if not greater, importance for bloggers and the public in general. Health is always our true wealth.

Join us at the Global Mala Project Manila, Sept. 26, 2015

Global Mala Project 2015 logoOnce again, the annual Global Mala Project will happen on Sept. 26, 2015. This year it will be held at WhiteSpace Manila and falls on the United Nation’s Day of Peace and the Fall Equinox. Manila will be participating simultaneously with cities that include Los Angeles, New York, London, San Francisco, Tokyo, etc.

Teresa Herrera-Anthony, a well-renowned model, environmentalist, and yoga teacher, brought the Global Mala Project to the Philippines many years ago. I just checked my blog and realized that I had written about Global Mala as far back as 2007! Here is the link to that 2007 post.

If there is one thing sorely lacking in our world these days, it is COMPASSION. We have become too busy, too materialistic, too focused on ourselves — many times we fail to see how others are suffering or feeling lonely.

Deepak Chopra is planning a global online event on July 11, 2015 — a synchronized meditation event that will be live-streamed from Carlsbad, CA, to 500,000 people in more than 100 countries around the world.
