A potent superfood drink — Organique Acai Premium Blend

Superfood — it’s a term that is not even in the Merriam-Webster dictionary (yes, I checked!!!) but everyone into health uses the term to refer to foods that contain extra large doses of antioxidants (believed to fight free radicals and shield us from cell damage), healthy fats ( thought to prevent heart disease), fiber (great for digestion), or phytochemicals (those plant chemicals that give them a dark color and smell).

The list of real superfoods is debatable and varies from health site to health site. But I do know that dark berries like cherries and blueberries are very rich in antioxidants. One dark berry that is quite potent is the açai (pronounced ah-SIGH-ee) berry, an exotic berry that comes from the açai palm tree and is native to South America.

I did a bit of research on what is inside an açai berry. Here’s one screenshot I got from the website of Dr. Joseph Mercola who is a New York Times bestselling author and trained in both traditional and natural medicine:Health benefits of acai berry-mercola.com

All that açai berry healthy goodness is now packed into a bottle (almost a liter!) of Organique Açai Premium Blend!

Launched in 2009, Organique Acai Premium Blend went through extensive research. The açai berries are natural, wild harvested berries from Brazil. Organique Inc.’s manufacturing facility in California imposes stringent regulation on food safety to assure buyers of a product that has undergone the highest quality in its processes. Organique Inc. also prides itself in being certified by the United States Department of Agriculture as “USDA Organic”, meaning Organique Acai has been produced through approved standards and methods according to specific requirements set by the US agency.

We recently received a bottle of Organique Acai Premium Blend as a sample. As it turned out, my husband had already heard of this brand from friends and had been wanting to try it so he was very happy that we actually had a bottle!

First things first. I turned the bottle around and began reading the label. What stands out for me is that it covers 40% of one’s Vitamin C requirements. It’s very low on calories and sugar too.

Label

The lower part of the label is usually something I read too. As we know, ingredients are listed according to which ones compose the majority of a product’s volume. I was happy to see that açai puree was listed first. That means it has the most content among the ingredients. Instead of white sugar, organic evaporated cane juice was used as a sweetener. Although both do come from cane sugar (or also from sugar beets, in the case of white sugar), organic evaporated cane juice undergoes less processing and is probably the better option between the two.

Another thing that caught my eye? It has no artificial additives and preservatives. Perfect!

Ingredients

The recommended daily dose of Organique Açai Premium Blend is 30-60 ml per day, depending on a person’s condition. In our case, we take the 30 ml option. But on days when we may not be feeling too well, we can always go with the higher dose. It is also best taken about 30 minutes before breakfast. Why so? Well, you are fully digested after dinner the night before and your stomach is empty. Taking Organique Acai on an empty stomach ensures that your body absorbs it quickly and entirely, rather than when it is taken with food.

We’re now down to the last few doses of our Organique Açai and are already thinking of including this as part of our healthy maintenance program.

Organique Açai Premium Blend comes in a 946-ml bottle and is available at Mercury Drug, Pure Pharmacy, Robinsons Supermarket, South Star Drug, and Watsons. The suggested retail price is PhP 2,500. And it’s not limited only to the Philippines. It is also sold in the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, and the Middle East.
